LoyalBlocks 101: Regulars Token

In this blog series, we take a look at different LoyalBlocks features and explain what they can do for your business. We want to make your LoyalBlocks experience as seamless and easy as possible.

So far, we’ve taken a look at some of the basic functions of LoyalBlocks tokens – the punch card and the Welcome Token. Today we’re going to look at one of our favorite tokens, which has many levels of customization and possibilities for rewards (and happy customers)!

The LoyalBlocks Regulars Token allows you to subdivide your customers into three segments – the Newbie, the Regular, and the VIP. You can then give a different reward to people as they progress into the next segment up. This token allows you to give better rewards to your best customers, which still treating the new customers to something small. Tropical Smoothie Cafe has had great success with this token – and no wonder, considering their rewards (and their smoothies). They give 10% off when someone becomes a Newbie, 15% off to a new Regular, and VIPs get one menu item totally free. This really incentivizes customers to come back. Shear Artistry also has a great Regulars Token – with $2 off threading/waxing to new Newbies, free eyebrows threading AND $10 off any facial to new Regulars, and a whopping $50 gift card to VIP members. This encourages people to try services and treatments that they might have never considered previously – hopefully encouraging them to do even more treatments at Shear Artistry in the future.

LoyalBlocks 101: Regulars token on the dashboardSo how do you set it up? As usual, it’s really easy, and there are a couple of ways to do it. Let’s start with the dashboard options, which is the easiest way to do it. Once your in the dashboard (available once you’ve set up your account), go into the tokens section, and scroll down to the Regulars Token. You can select from a dropdown list how many visits you want people to make to qualify for each of the segments – for example, for the Newbie segment you can choose from 1-5, whereas for the VIP option you can select from 50-150 visits. Once you’ve decided when you want to start rewarding people, you can decide what you want to give them. We recommend giving away something small to those who are new to your business, and saving something really great for your VIPs – after all, if they’ve visited your store 150 times they deserve a treat!

LoyalBlocks 101: Regulars token on the funnelThe other way to set up the Regulars Token is during the sign up process. Just click on Manage LoyalBlocks at the top of the screen. Step 3 allows you to edit the Regulars Token in the same way as the dashboard did – you can select how many visits a member has to make to qualify for each segment, and then choose what you want to give them.

Research by Oleg Urminsky, assistant professor of marketing at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, shows that customers are more likely to buy more when they’re close to hitting a goal or getting a reward:

As participants in the rewards program accumulated more stamps on their cards, the authors observed that the average length of time before the next coffee purchase decreased. Members bought that next coffee sooner the closer they were to getting a free one. In fact, the average time between purchases accelerated by about 20 percent from the first to the last stamp on the card. In other words, members purchased two more coffees in the time it took to complete the card than they would have if they hadn’t accelerated their purchases.

The Regulars Token on LoyalBlocks, as well as our punch card, gives your customers more and more goals to work towards – creating more business for you and your company.

LoyalBlocks 101: Welcome token

In this blog series, we take a look at different LoyalBlocks features and explain what they can do for your business. We want to make your LoyalBlocks experience as seamless and easy as possible.

Last week, we took a look at how and why to build a punch card using LoyalBlocks. This week we’re going to talk about the Welcome token, available to everyone using our customer loyalty program.

The welcome token is the first reward your customers will receive after they join your loyalty club. This is your chance to “wow” them – blowing them away with a strong welcome token is a great way to keep them coming back. This is your opportunity to show them your product – be it food, a haircut, a blowout – as it was meant to be consumed. If you have a meal that you believe epitomizes your restaurant, offer them all the sides for free when they buy the main. Izzo’s Illegal Burrito did just that, allowing them to (gently) suggest to their customers that this burrito goes well with these sides – thus creating the ideal customer experience and encouraging return visits. Which is what it’s all about after all!

LoyalBlocks makes it really easy to get up a Welcome token. You can do it during your sign up process, or via your dashboard later on. If you’re interested in setting it up during the sign up process, you’ll see it as you follow through the steps through in the “Build an App” section (it’s step #3). And this is how easy it is – just write in what you want to give away… and hit next. That’s it. Easier than falling off a log. Which I’ve done.

The other way to add a Welcome token is via your dashboard. It’s also really easy to do it from there – just click on the tokens section, and again simply type what you want to give away into the Welcome token space.

To date, we’ve had more than 5,000 Welcome tokens set up by our merchants, which have been unlocked nearly 100,000 times by users. That’s a great opportunity for those merchants to showcase what they can really do to their customers, and to encourage loyalty in return from those customers.

“I’ll be heading to watch the fireworks on the Hudson with my girlfriend (and maybe a sneaky bottle of wine), and then hopefully will stay out and meet up with some friends. In the day I’m heading to a friend who has an awesome balcony where we’ll be BBQ-ing – I love a good burger! Really excited for a day off to hang out with my girlfriend and friends!”

“One of my fondest 4th of July memories was when I was 14 and got to travel alone, for the first time! A friend of mine from boarding school had invited me to her family’s timeshare at Captiva Island. While I love the big Macy’s firework display every year, there was something magical about being on a small, beautiful beach with not too many people, enjoying a private fireworks show while sipping a pina colada (virgin of course!). A perfect moment in time!”

“For the 4th of July I will be sharing a house on the beach with 10 friends. I’ll be putting a firework work show on for everyone on Thursday night with over $800 worth of fireworks.”

LoyalBlocks 101: Punch cards

In this blog series, we take a look at different LoyalBlocks features and explain what they can do for your business. We want to make your LoyalBlocks experience as seamless and easy as possible.

A key feature of customer loyalty programs from the dawn of time (well, the dawn of commerce at least) has been the loyalty card. Usually taking the form of a punch card, this marketing tool gives your customers a reason to return to your business – if they return enough times, they get something for free. And everyone likes getting something for free. Loyalty cards also mean paper and space. Hands up if your wallet is bulging with cards you use on a less than weekly basis? Thought so.

One of the most basic, and most awesome, features of LoyalBlocks is our mobile punch card. It’s the first step in our “build your own app” process, and today I’ll  talk you through how to implement it and why it works.

When you sign up to LoyalBlocks for the first time and start to build your app, the first screen you see is the punch card creation screen:

LoyalBlocks punch card creation

As you can see, there are a few options here to choose between. We try to ensure that LoyalBlocks works for as many businesses as possible, so a variety of options in each token is something you can expect.

Select after how many walk-ins you want to reward your customers. We have two options here – 5 walk-ins (i.e. come in four times and get something free on the fifth visit) and 10 walk-ins. We leave it totally up to you how generous you want to be! You can also fill in what you want to offer people – they’ll see this when they open the punch card as an incentive to come back. Another great variation that LoyalBlocks offers is the ability to “stamp” customers’ punch cards when they purchase something, or even if they’re just visiting the store. That’s where our “just walk in” methodology comes into play – our system can pick up your customers when they walk in and automatically punch their card. Once you hit the “Next step” button, you’ll move on to the Welcome Token screen – something we’ll talk about another time.

That’s it – your punch card is now ready to go! Later on in the process, you’ll have more design options which we’ll talk about when we reach design customization.

Our merchants have had great successes with our punch cards, with almost 10,000 punch cards being finished across our merchants’ businesses. Many of them started off with paper loyalty cards, and then switched over the LoyalBlocks digital system. By moving away from paper, you not only save trees (I just worked out that so far our merchants have saved approximately half a tree* – well done guys!) but you also save your customers the hassle of carrying around loyalty cards. By automating the process with LoyalBlocks, you shave off another level of work for your customers and your staff – keeping everyone happy!

*Based on calculations by Conservatree and How Stuff Works, 500 sheets of paper = 2 pounds = 1250 punch cards = 6% of a tree.

Loyalblocks has you covered

From Hoboken to Havana, Greenwich to Galileo, Loyalblock’s got your culinary preferences covered. For an American flavor (with a somewhat French twist), head to Greenwich Village’s Jack Bistro & Bar, for high-quality bistro fare and a warm, Village experience. Or grab a free glass of wine at Lasagna Ristorante in Chelsea, renowned for their delectable Italian entrees, flowing drinks, fantastic service and famous brunch. Just across the river, Mojitos are the order of the day at Hoboken’s Havana Cafe & Lounge  with half price deals on their new Jalapeño watermelon Mojito- so you can be an honorary Cuban for an evening. We recently tried at the office using a watermelon, a Jalapeño pepper, rum, lime juice, mint leaves and a blender- results were sticky, strange and frankly, hazardous). With tons of new LoyalBlocks’ clubs in Manhattan, the food you love and a deal that will put a smile on your face are at your fingertips!
